Ellie (small)
Ellie (small)
Ellies are made with stoneware clay and finished with red iron oxide, which gives them a metallic finish. Aesthetically, they feel as if they could have been cast in bronze. They are created using a few techniques: the legs and tail are pulled clay, the ears are cut from a slab, and the trunks and bodies are thrown on a wheel. Please note that the photos shown here are examples: since each Ellie is handmade, natural variations will occur piece to piece.
Small Ellies measure approximately 3" x 3" x 4.5" and weigh approximately 5 oz.
You can also find Ellies at Mag.Pi in Studio City, California, and at The Ackland Art Museum Store in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
A portion of the proceeds go directly to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya.
Ellies are created and fired at Berman Ceramic Arts (North Hollywood, CA), and a private pottery studio in North Carolina, by I. Nelson Rose and Hamish Jackson. Concept created by I. Nelson Rose.
